Do not force lumber into the bracket, it should slide into the bracket with little force. If your treated lumber is still wet and swollen, it may create a tight fit in the bracket. If your treated lumber is dry, the wood will be easier to fit in the bracket. Once in the bracket and screws are fastened, the lumber should have a snug fit.
